Despite the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, a team of 14 Ukrainian researchers traveled 15,000 km from home to replace another team of researchers at the “Academician Vernadsky” station in Antarctica. Their journey, set against the backdrop of this global conflict, challenges them with harsh weather conditions and the psychological toll of isolation, while they continue to conduct vital research on humanity’s impact on this pristine yet severe corner of wildlife.
